Current New Brunswick is located in East Canada and borders Nova Scotia, Quebec, and Maine, a state in the U.S.A. It is one of the three Maritime provinces in Canada. The capital city of New Brunswick is Fredericton. No part of New Brunswick is located more than 200 kilometers from the ocean. New Brunswick's geographical coordinates are 46.0000° N, 66.0000° W. The area of New Brunswick is 72,908 km².
After the tragic Seven Year's War, most of what is now New Brunswick and parts of Maine became a part of Nova Scotia. Due to the several wars and sieges on New Brunswick land following the war, Nova Scotia was partitioned. In the year of 1784, Britain split Nova Scotia into three new and separate colonies: New Brunswick, Cape Breton Island, and Nova Scotia, as well as Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland.
As you can see on the map above showing Canada before confederation, the dotted lines represent the provinces of Canada that now exist. At the time, before Canada's Confederation, only a Nova Scotia and New Brunswick existed. When New Brunswick was a part of British North America, it was only one of the colonies that turned into its own province and kept the same geographical location and features.
New Brunswick's population (2011 Nationwide Census) is 751,171.
